Hertog Jan At Botanic is a fine-dining restaurant located in the Botanic Sanctuary Hotel, a historic site in the heart of Antwerp. The restaurant is run by chef Gert De Mangeleer and sommelier Joachim Boudens, who previously operated the three Michelin-starred Hertog Jan in Zedelgem. The duo closed their original restaurant in 2018 to pursue other projects, such as Bar Bulot and LESS Eatery and revived Hertog Jan in 2020 in a new and exclusive setting.
Hertog Jan At Botanic offers a unique culinary experience inspired by the Japanese omakase concept: “I leave it to the chef.” The menu is fixed and changes according to the season and the availability of the best products and ingredients. The dishes are harmonious, well-thought-out, and sometimes playful, showcasing the creativity and skill of De Mangeleer and his team.
The restaurant also has its own greenhouse, beehives, and herb garden, which provide fresh and organic produce for the kitchen.
The restaurant has only 22 seats, creating an intimate and cozy atmosphere. The service is attentive and professional, led by Boudens, who also curates the wine list. The wine selection is diverse and eclectic, featuring both classic and natural wines from different regions and countries. The restaurant also offers non-alcoholic pairings like teas, juices, and infusions.
Hertog Jan At Botanic is a two-star Michelin restaurant and one of Antwerp’s most exclusive dining destinations. It is a place where all senses are stimulated, from the welcoming words to the final greeting of the kitchen. It is a place where guests can enjoy a concert of flavors, aromas, and textures with their eyes closed.
